(deutsch) Paul Wirkus, geboren 1967 in Polen, wohnhaft in Köln, Musiker.
Seit Ende der 90er Jahre ist Wirkus als Solist (Elektronik, Schlagzeug) und durch mehrere Projekte im Bereich der Improvisation und zeitgenössischen elektronischen Musik bekannt geworden. Neben Solo-Veröffentlichungen wie "Inteletto d'Amore" oder "Déformation Professionnelle" hat er live und auf CD mit Musikern aus unterschiedlichen Bereichen zusammengearbeitet - z.B. mit Barbara Morgenstern und Stefan Schneider (To Rococo Rot) als September Collective, mit Ekkehard Ehlers, mit Johannes Frisch (Kammerflimmer Kollektief) im Free Jazz Trio Wirkus/Trzaska/Frisch sowie als Teil des Schlagzeug-Duos Moretti/Wirkus.
Paul Wirkus ist auf diversen renommierten Festivals aufgetreten, darunter SONAR, Barcelona; Musiques Volantes, Paris; c/o pop, Köln; Les Urbaines, Lausanne; Wien Modern, Wien, und erhielt u.a. in The Wire, De:Bug, Spex oder bei Pitchfork positive Rezensionen für seine Veröffentlichungen. Sein Solo-Album "Inteletto d'Amore" war im März 2004 CD des Monats in The Wire.
Aus einer Zusammenarbeit mit dem Berliner Ekkehard Ehlers resultierte zuletzt das Album "Ballads", das Anfang 2009 bei Staubgold erschienen ist.
Seit einigen Jahren hat Wirkus seine vielfältigen musikalischen Aktivitäten auch auf interdisziplinäre Projekte ausgeweitet - so hat er zusammen mit Mikolaj Trzaska Theatermusik für das Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf geschrieben, an Performance-Festivals in Parma teilgenommen oder die Suhrkamp-Lesungen von Andrzej Stasiuk musikalisch begleitet. Zuletzt realisierte er für das tschechische Radio in Prag ein Hörspiel.

Since the late 90s Wirkus has emerged both as solo performer (electronics, drums) and with several projects ranging from modern improv to minimal electronica. Apart from solo releases such as "Inteletto d'Amore" and "Déformation professionnelle" Wirkus has collaborated live and on CD with musicians of various musical backgrounds, e.g. Barbara Morgenstern and Stefan Schneider (To Rococo Rot) with whom he formed September Collective, Ekkehard Ehlers, and Johannes Frisch (Kammerflimmer Kollektief) who has joined Wirkus in the free jazz trio Wirkus/Trzaska/Frisch. Wirkus is also part of the drummer duo Moretti/Wirkus.

Furthermore, Wirkus has been expanding his musical activities into multidisciplinary projects in the last years. As a result, he composed music for theatre together with Mikolaj Trzaska for the Schauspielhaus Duesseldorf, performed at Parma's performance festivals, and provided musical accompaniment for the Suhrkamp readings of Andrzej Stasiuk . He has also created a radio play for Czech Radio in Prague.
